One of the biggest things to always remember while playing sudoku is that what a square CAN’T be will always dictate what it CAN be.
Yeah.. seems kind of obvious. But I can’t tell you how many people forget to look for it.
One of the tactics I use quite often is to look for a minigrid that has all three number filled in for the row (or column). The reason this is useful is because you can then look at the other two minigrids to determine at least which row numbers will go in.. if not which square.
Let’s take a row of three minigrids. The first minigrid has the middle row completely filled with 5, 8, and 9. When you look to the second minigrid, you see that it has a 3 in the top row. So.. what does this tell you? Quite simply it tells you that the 3 in the first minigrid MUST be at the bottom, and that the 3 in the last minigrid must be in the center row.
You can fill the 3 in as possibilities in the appropriate squares. This logic is obvious in the first minigrid… but a lot of people forget to recognize that it also affects the third minigrid. They work together, so if you KNOW that the 3 goes in the bottom row of the first minigrid, it is almost as good as knowing exactly what box it goes it. It doesn’t matter where it goes.. because it HAS to be in that row it automatically excludes it from the other two minigrids.
Start practicing your logic. The better you get at sudoku, the more easily you recognize the logic that takes two steps to achieve (like the above example).
Happy solving!

All right everyone. I thought it was about time to offer up another free sudoku puzzle! This time the name of the game is Sudoku X. The rules are the same as standard sudoku, with one exception. There are two shaded diagonals that must have the digits 1 to 9 in them. The numbers can not repeat within the column, row, or the two shaded diagonals.
So - here ya go. Sudoku X in .pdf format. (don’t forget. if you don’t have Adobe Reader, you can pick it up for FREE in the Google Pack. Click on that link BEFORE you download the Sudoku.)

Does anyone remember when Sudoku used to be called Number Place? I can remember sitting in bed, snuggled up with a Dell Puzzle Magazine and hunting down all the Number Place puzzles to do first (that and Brick by Brick.. oooohhhh.. FUN!).
Imagine my surprise, years later, when the rest of the world fell in love with Sudoku puzzles. Friends came out of the wood-work, toting puzzle mags and solving sudoku puzzles. Each would brag about how difficult one was, and how they finally found the solution. And all I could think was… what took you so long?
I think it is great that the world has formed an addiction to sudoku puzzles. And the greatest part of all? The sheer number of variations that are now available.
Here are just a few that I found recently:
CodeDuko
Greater-Than Sudoku
Gattai5 Sudoku
Sums Sudoku
Dodeka Sudoku
I recently spent an hour looking for sudoku variations online. Guess what! I found almost 40.. and I finally just stopped. I realized that I could spend the entire day researching them. What fun. So, I guess I have a lot of sudoku solving to do. As permissable, I will share some puzzles with you. Keep checking my site for updates. Sudoku.Info-For-You-Online.com
Happy Solving.
