Easy days of Sudoku Craze
from: Kathleen Frassrand
Did you know that solving a sudoku puzzle every day will expand your mind and strengthen your logic skills? It can also reduce stress. On top of all that, it is just plain fun!
Sudoku has been around for more than 15 years. It wasn't all that popular in the beginning, but has been steadily gaining ground since 2005. The objective of the game is to fill in squares of a grid with numbers, using each number only once per row, column, and mini-grid.
At first glance it may seem hard to understand, but once you learn a few tricks it gets easier. Sudokus range in complexity from a 4x4 grid (only uses number 1 to 4) to a 9x9 (uses numbers 1 to 9). Obviously, start with the easier grids to learn the tricks, then apply those lessons to the larger puzzles. Lately, puzzles have grown in size to 25x25, and have even started to include letters of the alphabet.
The easiest of the easy is a 4x4 grid. This grid has only the numbers 1 through 4, and totals only 16 numbers. As in the rules of standard sudoku, each number can only be used once in each row, column, and mini-grid.
Once you have mastered a 4x4, move on to a 6x6. You may only use the numbers 1 through 6, with standard rules applied.
After mastering a 6x6, you should be able to move to a standard 9x9. Numbers used are 1 through 9. When you reach the 9x9 grids, you have different difficulty levels. An easy 9x9 sudoku will have a large number of digits filled in for you already. It should be fairly obvious where the missing numbers go, as most times they only CAN go in one spot.
Moving up to a medium 9x9 will mean that not as many numbers are pre-filled in for you, and the numbers you must find will have multiple places to go. Through deduction and reasoning, you will be able to find the one true place for each number.
By starting small (and easy), you will learn the skills needed to successfully master sudoku. Oh, and by the way, a quality sudoku game will only every have one solution. If you find that there is consistently more than one solution, find yourself a new provider of sudoku puzzles. Sudoku truly is a game that anyone can learn to play.
